So delish, Not So nutrish

Hey guys! Coming back from a HUGE weekend of fun, excitement and accomplishments! More to come on that later...

So as I promised, Greek yogurt news first! Last week I sampled my Stony field Greek Cherry Yogurt. Okay guys, more often than not it's an issue of brand loyalty for me but this time I thought new Greek yogurt out? must try it! Well the truth is I loved it; it was creamy, satisfying, flavorful and filling; all the qualities you look for in a great snack. Well, turn it over to the nutrition facts label and it's another story [unfortunately]. So delish but not so nutrish...
Despite the fact that there is a great amount of healthy qualities I have a hard time outweighing them with the whooping 26 grams of sugar! Compared to the other leading Greek yogurt brands (Chobani, Yoplait, Okios, Dannon), this brand does have the highest calories and least amount of protein per serving (whomp, whomp). In Stony field's defense, this is the 2% Greek so it will have more fat and the serving size of the container may vary among distributors. Even still, the flavor was out-of-this-world delicious...so it could be supplemented for your usual dessert craving during the week!?
To put it in perspective for ya: This has the equivalent of about 2.5 doughnuts or 1 snicker bars worth of sugar! Ouch.

Smart Snacker conclusion? Instead of a weekly snack this looks like it will move to the monthly treat or dessert alternative...What are your thoughts on the product?

PS- Yoplait has a coupon...print one today :)

Assembly Required

So I give you [as promised] my Yoplait Greek Honey Vanilla breakfast parfait. With a little love and assembly required, I have managed to put together a rather tasty, satisfying, rib-sticking breakfast. Preparing it in the wine glass adds a little flare- it makes it feel like a true treat... who knew yogurt parfaits could be so classy?

In the glass?
- 1/3 cup of local granola (any locals? I got this at Fresh Market; I went with the "Chunky Monkey" flavor...it's okay, I like my Bear Naked Fit a little better)!
- Chopped strawberries
- Drizzle of agave

The Skinny: ~ 313 calories, 1 gm fat, 12 gm protein, 30% calcium, 20% vitamin D
This will vary depending on the type of granola you use and variations of serving sizes

So why the greek yogurt parfait? It makes me feel like a 'Greek Goddess!' Check back tomorrow for some additional 'Greek Goddess' recipes and hightlights from one of Yoplaits latest events!

2X Protein

I feel like it has been a while since I have dunked my spoon into a container of greek yogurt- next time remind me not to go so long! Man, have I missed this stuff! Not only was it like the greatest reunion between [wo]man and food but it was on sale at the local grocer!  Yoplait Greek is available nationwide for a suggested retail of about $1.19 per 6 oz cup which is comparable to other greek yogurt.

I tend to always meander back to yoplait; it's thick, creamy texture is loaded with nutrients at a cheap caloric cost! It is one of the only greek yogurts' that has both calcium and vitamin D in one cup! Calcium and vitamin D work best together in the body; with the help of eachother they are absorbed more readily and can be used more efficiently in your body!

With twice the protein and 0% fat it makes a filling snack, great yogurt parfait for breakfast, smoothie for a quick lunch, mixed into baked goods or dip! For some of Yoplait's greatest greek recipes click here!!! (You may even get a coupon to try your favorite flavor today)!

Check back tomorrow 'greek goddesses'...
I am making a Yoplait Greek Honey Vanilla breakfast parfait to start off my day and blogging about 'Yoplait's recent Greek Goddess event'!

Breakfast of Champions

In honor of the olympic games I thought it would only be right to make a "Breakfast of Champions" this morning.

So like I start most of my mornings (when time permits)- a cup of coffee from my little keurig. This thing is great. You can buy tons of flavors, tea and hot chocolates and make a single cup (or more if you'd like) without the waste of an entire pot :)
I'm diggin' it!

Then I reaaaaally got started on my "Breakfast of Champions!"

The necessary ingredients (to your right)...in the blend:
- 1 banana (that little guy prompted me to make this shake...he was on his last leg) (~100 kcal)
- 1 container of vanilla chobani greek yo (120 kcal)
- 1 Tbsp of flax ( 30 kcal)
- 1 Tbsp of Natural Pb (80 kcal)
- 1/2 cup of light chocolate soy milk (45 kcal)
- couple of ice cubes
- splash of vanilla extract

Blend it!!

This shake provides ~
375 k cal, 10 grams of fat and 22.5 grams of protein

Talk about a meal in a cup! It goes to show that those liquid calories can seriously add up quick!
That's a fierce fuel-filled shake :)

Today's agenda: working with a dietitian who owns her own private practice in Raleigh! so cool!

By the way...it's snowing?!
STAY WARM!
